LEBANESE NIGHT AT THE RACES

Responding to the invitation of the Lebanese Ambassador Mr. Massoud Maalouf, hundreds of Lebanese-Canadians as well as foreign diplomats attended the Lebanese Night at the Races in the Rideau Carleton Entertainment Centre on 25 June 2009.

The program of the evening, well organized and efficiently prepared by Lisa Richardson included speeches, prizes to the winner, folkloric dances, Lebanese music and a sumptuous dinner.

In his speech, Ambassador Maalouf emphasized the importance of such events in bringing the Lebanese community closer to their country of origin and spoke about the positive developments that are taking place in Lebanon, including the free and fair parliamentary elections that were held a couple weeks ago, and the rush of tourists toward Lebanon this summer.

The gifted young Lebanese Canadian lady Samantha Ammoun sang in her beautiful voice the Canadian and Lebanese national anthems.

In the presence of City Counselor Mr. Elias El Chantiry and the Lebanese Consul Mr. Georges Abou Zeid, Ambassador Maalouf handed the winner of the race a prize and laid a specially made blanket on the winning horse.

Al-Arz Lebanese Art Group performed beautiful folkloric dances and a delicious Lebanese dinner was served at the sound of Lebanese music and songs.

The Embassy of Lebanon would like to thank Lisa Richardson and the Rideau Carleton Entertainment Centre for making this Lebanese Night such a successful event.
